WHO (World Health Organisation) has reported 627,000 deaths in 2020. This number, mostly young children and pregnant mothers, has increased by 180,000 since the Malaria Vaccine project commenced. Hence, this is also a critical year as you will read in the Newsletter.
This Newsletter follows the 5th Anniversary Celebration of the Malaria Vaccine Project (MVP) on March 23. We were honoured to have as our special guests General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK CVO MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove; Sir Peter had launched the Malaria Vaccine Project back in March 2017 when he was Governor General of Australia.
In this Newsletter, Professor Michael Good gives us an update on the malaria vaccine research and the freeze-dried form of PlasProtecT® will undergo final preliminary studies this year. These studies involve a toxicology study and a human trial to test that the freeze-dried form is safe and activates the immune system. For this to happen, the Malaria Vaccine Project must raise $300,000 in 2022.
“Challenge 22”. This is a plea to ask all to make a tax deductible donation this year-whatever you can. If we can reach the $300,000 target, Professor Good will be able to proceed in 2023 to human challenge trials—trials, that save lives. Click here to view newsletter
